Robert Pereira Hind

Robert Pereira Hind is a highly skilled and experienced artist and photographer who creates sumptuous artworks at his Edinburgh studio. Born in Bolton, he graduated with an MA from the London College of Communication and established a career as a fine art photographer. His current work takes inspiration from botanical illustration and the use of gold in religious iconography. Robert begins his process by locating visually distinctive subjects to photograph before digitally removing all context. Having refined the difficult process of transferring photographic pigment ink onto gold leaf, Robert prints his compositions onto gilded panel backgrounds. Each piece is then coated in shellac and glazed. The results are at once strikingly minimal and luxurious. Robert’s artworks blaze with rich golden light. Every artwork is unique and, over time, the golden background will tarnish, acquiring a deeper, more dramatic character and lustre.
