Phil Ward
Read more about Phil Ward
Phil Ward was born in Putney, South West London, in 1962. He took to sketching and painting early on and eventually studied at St Martins School of Art. A successful career in the advertising industry followed; Phil rose to become an Art Director, creating advertisements mainly for television, radio and print media.
Phil has lived and painted in West Cornwall for 20 years, cheerfully swapping the clamour of London for coastal tranquillity. His work aims to capture movement; each image is alive and takes inspiration from his insatiable curiosity for the people, animals and landscape that surround him. Phil paints with both brush and knife, whether it be on location, from sketches or photographs. He likes to build up layers of paint making marks and creating depth to capture the moment, giving each finished piece a life of its own.
Phil has exhibited in Cornwall and in London and his work is in private collections here in the UK, in Europe and the USA.
