Artist David Wheeler was born in Notting Hill, London and was originally a student of design. He came to painting later in life, becoming a much sought-after and widely collected modern painter.
David’s earlier work reflected his love for rural Italy and France. The rolling hills of Tuscany and the lavender fields of Provence often featured in David’s paintings. His more recent collections split into two distinct themes focusing either on capturing the teeming life and famous vistas of the city of his birth or the mood and spirit of the coast and countryside. Each theme has a fresh, modern, contemporary style. David’s work requires the viewer to look afresh and with innocence on the world they thought they already knew.
The latest paintings at Dart Gallery feature the bustle and energy of life on the beach in summer.
