ROBERT LENKIEWICZ

ROBERT LENKIEWICZ

Robert Lenkiewicz was born in London in 1941. At the age of 16 he was accepted at St Martin's college of Art & Design on the strength of a series of anatomical drawings of dissected pigeons. Later attending the Royal Academy he continued to pursue an independent course as a painter. A well known figure around the Barbican in Plymouth, he painted the tramps and down and outs in a series of projects. During his life he painted in total 21 projects consisting of hundreds of paintings. Robert Lenkiewicz died in August 2002 but left behind a legacy that will eventually be recognised as an important treatise on the social landscape of the time. His paintings were not all great but many were. We try and present the best of his portfolio in our gallery.
